RBXEF-OP Open Channel Electromagnetic Flow Meter

Reliable flow data, even in challenging fluids. The RBXEF-OP open channel Electromagnetic Flow Meter utilizes advanced electromagnetic induction to measure flow velocity and water level simultaneously. Unlike acoustic meters, it is less affected by sediment or air bubbles, making it the ideal choice for municipal sewage, stormflow locations, and agricultural irrigation. Whether installed in standard flumes (Parshall, Venturi) or non-standard channels, the RBXEF-OP provides continuous, accurate area-velocity measurements.

  • Ultra-Low Velocity Sensitivity (0.01m/s):
  • Unlike ultrasonic Doppler meters that struggle below 0.05m/s, the RBXEF-OP detects movement as slow as 0.01m/s. This makes it the most reliable solution for slow-moving wastewater and large-scale irrigation channels.
  • Immunity to Debris & Bubbles:
  • The electromagnetic principle measures the bulk fluid velocity directly. It is not affected by high sediment concentration, air bubbles, or floating debris that often cause signal loss in acoustic-based flow meters.
  • Dual-Sensor Redundancy for Depth:
  • Supports integrated Ultrasonic (non-contact) and Hydrostatic (pressure) level sensors. This ensures continuous, accurate area-velocity calculations even if one sensor is obstructed or affected by surface foam.
  • All-Weather Power Flexibility:
  • Designed for remote field deployment with support for AC/DC, Solar power, and 3.6V high-capacity battery packs. Perfect for off-grid hydrological stations and rural irrigation monitoring.
  • Submersible IP68 Reliability:
  • The flow sensor and hydrostatic depth sensor are both IP68-rated, allowing for permanent submersion in harsh sewer environments or flood-prone channels without risk of damage.
  • Smart Data Resilience:
  • Equipped with an advanced internal logger that preserves all calibration parameters and measurement records during extended power outages, ensuring zero data loss for critical environmental audits.

Principle

Working Principle of RBXEF-OP Working Principle:

The RBXEF-OP Open Channel Electromagnetic Flow Meter operates on the Area-Velocity Method. Unlike traditional meters that measure flow directly through a closed pipe, this system calculates discharge by simultaneously monitoring two independent physical variables: Flow Velocity and Liquid Level.

1. Velocity Measurement (Faraday’s Law)

The core of the system is the electromagnetic flow sensor. It operates based on Faraday’s Law of Electromagnetic Induction:

  • The Mechanism: The sensor generates a controlled magnetic field in the water. As a conductive liquid (such as sewage or irrigation water) flows through this field, it acts as a moving conductor, cutting the magnetic flux lines and generating an electromotive force (voltage).

  • The Result: This induced voltage is directly proportional to the Flow Velocity (V).

  • Advantage: This method is highly resistant to interference from silt, bubbles, or floating debris, allowing for an ultra-low starting velocity of $0.01 m/s$.

2. Level Measurement (Area Calculation)

To determine the volume of water passing through, the system must know the "size" of the water column:

  • The Sensors: The system utilizes an Ultrasonic Level Meter (non-contact) or a Hydrostatic Pressure Sensor (submersible) to measure the real-time water depth.

  • The Calculation: Based on the pre-configured geometry of the channel (e.g., the width of a rectangular channel or the specific dimensions of a Parshall/Venturi flume), the transmitter automatically calculates the Cross-Sectional Area (A) of the flow.

3. Flow Integration

The Flow Transmitter acts as the "brain" of the system, performing real-time data integration:

  • The Formula: It executes the mathematical operation: Q (Flow Rate) = V (Velocity) \times A (Area).

  • Output: The transmitter displays and outputs the instantaneous flow rate, totalized flow, and velocity via RS485 (Modbus) or GPRS/4G wireless modules.

Features

RBXEF-OP Open Channel Electromagnetic Flow Meter Key Features:

  • Electromagnetic Velocity Sensing Technology
  • Utilizes the principle of electromagnetic induction to measure flow velocity directly. Unlike ultrasonic Doppler meters, it remains unaffected by sediment concentration, air bubbles, or floating debris, ensuring stable data in harsh wastewater environments.
  • Ultra-Wide Dynamic Range (0.01m/s∼10m/s)
  • Features industry-leading low-flow sensitivity with a starting velocity as low as 0.01m/s. This allows for precise measurement in near-static or slow-moving channels, such as dry-season sewer networks or flat-gradient irrigation canals.
  • Dual-Depth Sensor Redundancy
  • Supports simultaneous input from Ultrasonic (non-contact) and Hydrostatic (pressure) level sensors. This redundant design ensures accurate area-velocity calculations even when surface foam, scum, or extreme weather conditions interfere with a single sensor.
  • All-Weather Power Flexibility
  • Offers versatile power options: AC 220V/110V, DC 12V, Solar power, and a dedicated 3.6V high-capacity lithium battery pack for remote field deployment. Perfect for off-grid hydrological stations and rural monitoring.
  • Submersible IP68 Protection
  • Both the electromagnetic velocity sensor and the hydrostatic level sensor are IP68-rated. They are designed for permanent submersion and can withstand full pipe surcharges or flooding without signal loss or hardware damage.
  • High-Capacity Data Resilience
  • Equipped with an advanced internal logger that automatically preserves all calibration parameters and measurement records during extended power outages, ensuring data integrity for critical environmental audits.
  • Universal Channel & Pipe Compatibility
  • Works seamlessly with standard flumes (Parshall, Venturi, Palmer-Bowles) and weirs (V-notch, Rectangular). It also supports non-standard channels and pipes ranging from DN100 to DN6000, with channel widths up to 6 meters.
  • Intelligent Communication & Remote Monitoring
  • Standardized with RS485 (Modbus) and optional GPRS/4G/5G wireless modules, enabling real-time cloud-based monitoring and remote data access via mobile or desktop platforms.
